Neighbourhood Opportunity Centres across the borough are proving successful in supporting residents in their search for work, improving their skills through training and education and helping to break down any barriers that are stopping people from progressing in their working lives.
The Denaby and Conisbrough Opportunity Centre, based at 9 Grays Court in Denaby Main is testimony that this Success Doncaster initiative is successfully assisting local residents into employment.
Based in Denaby Main, Zena Wright approached her local Centre determined to step on to the career ladder after several years of being unemployed. After raising her two children during this time she had little experience in applying for jobs.
At the Opportunity Centre, Zena met with the friendly advisors where she was informed about various training courses available and held locally at The Terrace in Conisbrough. She was also signposted to a Jobmate who provided her with a number of job descriptions for vacancies in the area.
After finding a suitable vacancy in retail Zena was given an information pack and received assistance in completing her application form. She was successful in securing the job and it is just a short journey away from her home.
Delighted to be out of unemployment, Zena is already eager to undertake further in-house training in order to advance her career within the retail sector.
Denaby and Conisbrough Opportunity Centre is open Monday to Thursday from 9am – 5pm, and Friday from 9am to 4pm.
