Trevor Nadolny
Trevor Nadolny came to Success Doncaster for assistance as he felt his lack of confidence due to a stutter was preventing him from obtaining full time employment. Referred to the Jobmates programme, he was partnered with Vanessa Watson who arranged to hold regular meetings to help him with any issues and set small achievable goals to aim towards.
After an anxious start to meetings, Trevor started to relax and was happy to be receiving support, his speech was more fluent and he started to realise he was not at fault for his speech problems and lack of confidence. He continued to attend all of his appointments and worked hard to overcome barriers.
Thanks to the help he has received, Trevor is now a full time volunteer at Doncaster YMCA after attending an initial interview. In this role he is working on an advertising campaign to boost awareness about the project. He has attended a two day course to assist him in the campaign and is currently attending a part time course on switchboard use and correct telephone manner. Coupled with admin qualifications he already possessed he is using these skills and gaining a lot of experience in the position.
Trevor said: “Thanks to Success Doncaster I am now on a volunteer placement at the Doncaster YMCA where I have been helping to produce a magazine and assist with the marketing. Jobmates has helped me progress by sending me on a skills passport course which has enabled me to get to meet other people in the same situation as I am. I have also acquired new skills whilst developing the skills I already had.
“The benefits of the programme have meant I have met new people and gained a lot of confidence in myself. I have gained a lot of qualifications as well as new skills which will be of value when I start work. With the volunteer position I have got I am also working towards a recognised volunteer certificate which will help me gain employment as it has evidence of everything I have done as a volunteer on it.”
Trevor feels that Success Doncaster has really helped along the way towards his final goal. He now knows that when he has overcome the barrier of working on a switchboard and his placement comes to an end he will be able to use his experience and move on to a paid position.
