The World of Expressive Arts
Diana Moss is a perfect role model for anyone with disabilities wanting to start their own business. Being profoundly deaf and reliant upon lip reading and written communication, Diana has overcome many barriers to set herself up in business as a freelance artist.
Diana approached Success Doncaster for help and initially attended a confidence building course where she developed the focus and determination to carry things through. She then received support from an Enterprise Coach who provided her with the business know how she needed to start her own business.
She started her business ‘The World of Expression Arts’ in May this year, which is predominantly about expressing oneself through art, making it a fun experience through several activities such as art paintballs, art parties and art theatre.
Diana was introduced to local company Platform 51, who work predominantly with women and they were so impressed with her drive and enthusiasm that she has now been asked to work for them, providing art parties and paintball games.
Diana’s business continues to grow and she hopes that she can help people to free their minds by exploring art and their emotions.
We asked Diana a few questions about being in business:
Who / what was your inspiration for starting in business?
My confidence coach believed in me from the start. I have my own inspiration to explore arts and to make people happy and put a smile on their faces and my confidence coach understood and supported this.
What has been the biggest challenge for you?
Using my talents to show the whole world what I am capable of as a small business in a big world.
What do you like most about being your own boss?
I like being my own boss because I can please myself what I do with my business.
What advice would you give to anyone wanting to start their own business?
Just be patient. Send out as much information as you can to get the word about your business out there. It will take time but it does work!
Future plans, where do you see yourself and your business this time next year?
Hopefully, I will be busy everyday helping people. My business will be full of bookings and my paintings will become famous.
