Tat-or-too
Mick Noble has over eight years experience within the tattoo industry so following a period of being unemployed, he spotted the perfect location to launch his own business, Tat-or-Too.
Tat-or-Too is a tattoo and piercing studio based in Stainforth, offering you a full custom design tattoo, large or small or you can choose from the 1000's of designs within the shop. For the more personal touch you can design your own tattoo with help from Mick and his staff, if needed.
Mick obtained advice from the Success Doncaster programme and looked at the principles of starting your own business, he also received help in securing a small enterprise grant to help him start-up.
The store also offers a full range in body piercings along with microdermals and the increasingly popular skin divers. Piercings are carried out by Claire, who has extensive knowledge of piercing and offers expert advice on how to care for your new piercing. Claire’s motto is "if you can pinch it, I can pierce it" They also stock a selected range of body jewellery.
Customers can also receive nail and beauty treatments whilst visiting Tat-or-Too. Mick has just recently offered space for a local nail technician/beautician, Delightful Nails who was working from home to operate her business from within the store.
We asked Mick about his experiences in business:
Who / what was your inspiration for starting in business?
It was an idea my partner and I had been discussing for a while. We were shopping one afternoon and walked past the shop on Station Road and noticed it was available for rent. That was the push we needed to get things started and it just went from there.
What has been the biggest challenge for you?
Raising funds to start the business was a challenge as we were both unemployed so trying to get a loan was very difficult.
What do you like most about being your own boss?
The flexibility of the hours is a bonus and I like being able to make all the decisions regarding the business. It is important for us to maintain the highest level of customer service and satisfaction.
What advice would you give to anyone wanting to start their own business?
Go for it! There is help and support out there to get started. Donbac and Success Doncaster have given us the best help and advice from starting up through to running the shop. If you don’t try you will only regret it later!
Future plans, where do you see yourself and your business this time next year?
We have some fantastic ideas for expansion if everything goes to plan but i don’t want to say too much about that right now and spoil the surprises!
