Paula Withers

Paula Withers

Following some personal issues and the pressures of work, Paula had to leave her position of working in graphic design in 2004 suffering with mental health issues.

For the following five years she was out of employment and worried about her financial issues. In 2009 Paula came to Success Doncaster for help through the Jobmates programme. Initially what worried her Jobmate was her lack of confidence so she was referred to the counselling service on offer as well as being put in touch with the former Success Doncaster Financial Inclusion programme in order to start dealing with her finance worries.

Following meetings, Paula and her Jobmate decided the best way for her to get back to employment would be to become self employed. Her Jobmate referred her on to a Community Enterprise Advisor to discuss how she would fulfil this plan.

Whilst seeing the Community Enterprise Advisor, Paula and her Jobmate started to look at courses that would help her reach her goal, including one in photography, and ways that she could receive funding to enable her to complete them.

Paula is using the skills she has learnt from these courses and her Success Doncaster experience to set up a business drawing portraits. Her Jobmate has said that Paula has been extremely proactive throughout her experience with the programme and it was obvious how much her confidence had come on since starting.

Paula said that the help she received from Jobmates, her Community Enterprise Advisor and the Financial Inclusion programme, all of which fall under the greater Success Doncaster umbrella, has helped her enormously.
