Natasha Watkins
Single mum, Natasha Watkins aged 34, was homeless and struggling to find employment due to her criminal record. Natasha had been in prison a number of times and found it hard to battle her alcohol and drug addiction.
Natasha contacted Success Doncaster for help and was immediately referred to the Doncaster Women’s Centre. Here she took up a volunteer position as receptionist. Her new post meant she got the chance to meet other women in similar situations to herself, this inspired her to work with and encourage them to also try to turn their lives around.
As her confidence and experience grew, Natasha felt confident enough to apply for a vacancy as Trainee Community Researcher. The job involves gathering data on specific needs of people who live in a developing area.
Natasha was successful and was appointed straight away. Although the post is new to her, she already enjoys mixing with a variety of people from different backgrounds and cultures.
Crediting the Success Doncaster programme for helping to turn her life around, Natasha’s self esteem has soared and she now enjoys earning money, gaining valuable on the job experience and learning at the same time. Optimistic about the future, Natasha feels secure and happy that she can be the perfect role model for her daughter.
