Mick Shore's Academy of Martial Arts
The only school in the UK providing original training of ‘Bruce Lee’ martial arts is moving premises with the help from Success Doncaster.
Mick Shore from Armthorpe has been teaching mixed martial arts in Doncaster town centre for as long as he can remember.
However, after turning to Success Doncaster for help, a programme dedicated to the promotion and development of self employment and enterprise, he is now moving to larger premises in order to accommodate his growing business.
Mick was assigned to his own business adviser, through the Business Buddy scheme who helped him to understand how to successfully promote and market his business resulting in an increase in numbers attending his classes.
Mick said “the concepts and advice I received from my business buddy became very easy to apply. She was efficient in ensuring I could understand and use the information given and I felt very secure that I was with an experienced advisor who was incredibly helpful. I hope to continue to grow my martial arts school so that more people can experience the physical and mental benefits of this sport.”
His interest in martial arts started at the age of 7 and from there he has visited and trained with many martial arts experts all over the world. In fact, his teacher trained with Bruce Lee between 1966 and 1973. He then went on to train Mick, who is now the only remaining ‘original’ chief instructor in the UK. The academy teaches people of all ages and abilities, ranging from 5 to 63 years of age and he also provides teacher/instructor training. He has pupils travelling from areas such as Nottingham, Leeds and even as far afield as Newcastle. Mick believes that learning a martial art can bring a whole new dimension to life. Not only will it help you get fitter, but it provides a way of learning respect, self discipline and building self esteem.
Mick also provides lessons in knife awareness and self defence to local schools, teaching them the basics on self protection. The sessions teach students how to fend off would-be attackers.
