Mark Holland
After moving from job to job, Mark Holland could not decide which career path to follow. At the age of 19 he had already tried his hand at working on the railway, joining the army, welding, labouring for a mechanic and bar work and was currently on Jobseekers Allowance.
As part of the Success Doncaster programme he was referred to Jobmate Steve Goodall who realised the initial problem was Mark making his mind up on what type of career to opt for. With each meeting he had another idea or choice including joinery, becoming an electrician, plumbing and rail track maintenance. Another issue, Steve felt, was each of these jobs required a lot of training and he questioned if Mark was capable of staying with any of them and completing the course.
Several sessions with Steve made Mark realise that although it is always good to keep your options open, he really needed to choose a course of action and stick to it to get over his inability to commit to anything long-term.
With Steve's help, Mark is now taking part in a 10 week training course on railway maintenance with a good chance of getting a job at the end of it. Steve has also assisted him in writing a CV and he has completed courses in Health and Safety, Managing Your Money, Food Hygiene and Housekeeping.
