After qualifying as a Chef through three years training at college, Kim Bonham turned her passion for food to the sweet side of the menu and set up her own cake making and decorating business.

Kim’s Cakes offers customers all kinds of bespoke cakes for birthdays, engagements, weddings or any celebrations people may feel worthy of a special cake. Kim has also introduced handmade gift wrapped chocolates to her business to appeal to an even greater market.

Through Success Doncaster, Kim was able to apply for a financial grant which was used for the initial set-up of the business. The programme also referred her to Doncaster Chamber of Commerce who provided her with training in marketing, accounts and other aspects of business in which she had no experience.

The inclusion of gift wrapped chocolates in her product list is not the only plan for Kim to extend her business. The addition of Easter eggs are a strong possibility in her future plans and she is also working on obtaining a space in a restaurant (hopefully another entrepreneur of Success Doncaster) to display her cakes and chocolates and will also supply the cakes for use as desserts.
