Julie Poulter Design
Julie Poulter graduated in Furniture and Product Design in 2001 and has worked as an Interior Designer ever since. She has previously worked for a number of companies including blue chip brands such as Orange, the Yates chain of pubs and restaurants and a number of hotels and private residential homes. Her work has taken her the length and breadth of the country as well as across the water - she worked in America for a period of time.
After years of working for other design agencies Julie plucked up the courage to start her own business in February this year with the hope that this would provide her with the opportunity to work on a wide variety of both commercial and residential projects. She saw a niche in the local market to make her work accessible to residential clients and architects alike and work on a project by project basis enabling her to work on the variety of work from both categories.
Julie offers services to both business and private customers and will visit customers in their own home. The services she offers include designing a scheme from CAD drawings and space planning through to the management of a complete project including buying services.
Before launching into self employment, Julie contacted Success Doncaster and was quickly referred to an Enterprise Coach. Her Enterprise Coach provided her with advice on how to produce a business plan and techniques of marketing, two vital elements for any business that is just about to start–up. She also received an Enterprise Grant which has helped greatly in being able to set up a website for the business, which is in the final stages of completion and will enable her to promote her business to a wider audience.
Julie is a perfect example of how the Success Doncaster programme and its partners work closely together and demonstrates the level of help and support that is out there for anyone wanting to start their own business. The programme provides a wide range of support from dealing with financial issues and debt advice to looking at ways to develop and grow your business.
She also attended a business start-up course and received personal one-to-one business advice from one of Success Doncaster’s specialist business advisors. Since starting her business, Julie has also been able to benefit from further advice and support from a Business Buddy and has received mentoring from the Doncaster 100 programme in confidence boosting and self belief.
Julie said: “Having had a number of years experience in interior design, I knew that this is exactly what I wanted to do, it was being able to run a business that I needed to gain experience in.
“Thanks to all the help and support I have obtained from the Success Doncaster programme, I have been able to set up my business, Julie Poulter Design with the drive and confidence I needed” she added
Juggling a busy family life and starting a new business has been a tough experience for Julie but one that she loves and a challenge she is more than happy to accept. She has big plans for the future and is keen to work with architects on future projects.
