Jill Jenkinson

The closure of one of the longest running chain stores in Britain hit hard to thousands of retail employees across the country, Jill Jenkinson was one of them, finding herself being made redundant after 12 years of working for Woolworths in Thorne Centre.

The initial impact had a huge downturn effect on Jill’s life as she had a mortgage to cover on her own and no earnings coming into the household. Success Doncaster came to her aid through the Jobmates programme to assist her in dealing with low self esteem and confidence issues. Her personal Jobmate worked with her to gain her trust and confidence and gradually introduced new ideas around her direction of employment.

Jill and her Jobmate decided that the best way forward was for her to gain some new qualifications and she recently passed a Clait Training certificate at her local library. She has now progressed onto further qualifications using spreadsheets in Excel and other office applications which will enhance her employability and widen the field in which she can look for work.

Within her job applications, Jill now has a more positive attitude thanks to the help she has been receiving through the Jobmates programme. Her confidence has increased and she has developed her skills of selling herself to employers on paper and feels confident attending interviews.

Jill is proactively applying for jobs on a weekly basis and although she is still to find employment, she is receiving excellent feedback from the applications she has made and the interviews she has attended which is showing her she is moving in the right direction. On top of this, Jobmates are currently arranging for her to start a voluntary position in the offices of Thorne Regeneration Partnership Trust where she will gain valuable hands on experience in an area she wishes to work.
