Essential Care
Essential Care was launched just over a year ago in January 2010 and is continually on the up, creating a positive name for itself by bucking all the current economic trends. The company have made considerable progress over the last 12 months and have recruited more staff at a time when many companies are reducing their workforce. The company now employs more than 30 people.
Business owner Helen Axup previously worked in the public sector providing social care but decided to take the plunge last year and make a go of working for herself.
Essential Care provides 24 hour care for vulnerable adults in their home or community, offering the highest quality of care and support which enables them to remain living independently for as long as possible. The business very much concentrates on service personalisation with each service being tailored to the needs of the individual.
The company works in partnership with both local authorities and private individuals and offers services such as dog walking, weekly shopping, cleaning, ironing and respite sits to help ensure a better quality of life.
Helen received support from Success Doncaster when she first had the idea of starting her own business. She took advantage of a business start-up course from which she particularly found useful with information on finance and use of cash flow and book-keeping. Helen has also attended a number of business networking events and has received help with recruiting her new members of staff.
Helen has also undergone further training and obtained the Care Quality Commission which is a vigorous process required to enable anyone to start a business in this area of expertise.
All the staff are CRB checked and Helen is also keen to ensure that everyone receives the appropriate training.
Helen’s story is a real success, the initial risk of starting a business in such uncertain and testing times has really paid off and the business is continuing to develop and grow at great speed. Helen is now looking to open another office in East Yorkshire in the near future.
