Choosing a wedding dress can be a daunting prospect for most brides but it should be an enjoyable, happy and memorable experience. With this in mind, Sandra started her business, Elite Bridal Wear with the intention of the whole bridal shopping experience being perfect at all times.
Sandra Dowson had always dreamt of owning her own bridal shop. In March 2007, she was offered the chance of renting a room in an already established business so she had no hesitation in taking up this opportunity to begin living her dream. By November that year, Sandra had taken over the full lease and her business Elite Bridal Wear was going from strength to strength.
There were many challenges however, and her original e-commerce website desperately needed renovating and updating. Sandra recognised that she needed some help with this and got on the phone to Success Doncaster to find out about the support that was available. Through the programme, Sandra was put in contact with her own personalised ‘Business Buddy’ who worked closely with Sandra, specifically looking at the website, marketing and additional training. Sandra particularly liked the fact that her ‘Business Buddy’ was, and still is, only a phone call away when needed. She felt she was able to share her concerns with someone who already had a wealth of business experience.
Sandra was signposted to a website design company who have helped build the website to the specification Sandra needs to develop her business further online. She managed to obtain finance through an unsecured loan, another service offered through the Success Doncaster programme. Small loans are available with no fees, no security and at an interest rate fixed at 10%. Sandra is now looking at options to progress from operating as a sole trader to becoming a limited company, with the potential to also be VAT registered.
The abundance of advice and support Sandra has received over the last 12 months has proved invaluable in moving her business forward. A good marketing plan and a new look website has led to increased footfall, which in turn has meant increased profit. So much so that they are now moving to new, larger premises this week in Carcroft.
