Ill health prevents many people from getting back to work, but with help from PRIME, one of the delivery partners for Success Doncaster, Doncaster businesswoman Pauline Fraser is putting her best foot forward with a new venture!
Pauline decided to set up her own business after ill health prevented her from returning to her Nursing career. She was looking for a satisfying job that would give her flexibility to work with family members. Pauline’s children attended lessons when they were younger and she now has a grandchild who attends dancing lessons. Pauline felt that there was a gap in the market for a new dancewear shop in Doncaster and so decided to set one up with help from Success Doncaster.
AJay’s Dancewear on Crossland Way in Scawthorpe sell a wide range of dancing products ranging from tap and ballet shoes, ballroom shoes, leotards, cardigans, tiaras and hairstyling products. There’s a touching story behind the shop’s name. Pauline’s sister Julie died from cancer two years ago and her son used to call her “A.J.”, short for “Aunty Julie”. The shop name is a tribute to her memory. Pauline is looking to expand the business to include theatrical costumes and prom wear. She also has plans to begin trading online.
Since opening, business at AJay’s has been growing steadily thanks to PRIME’s help. A business advisor for PRIME has been mentoring Pauline, helping her with all aspects of the business from cash flow and sales forecasting to marketing.
Pauline said: “Having never run a business myself before, the help I have received has been invaluable. It's reassuring to know there is someone there for me and knowing they are on hand to help when I need it.”
