Ben Redfern
Ben left Northcliffe School in Conisbrough to attend Dearne Valley College as a full time brickwork student having always wanted to pursue a career within the Construction industry. At College Ben successfully completed both his foundation and intermediate construction awards in Brickwork to a very high standard.
However the problems started for Ben when he began to apply for apprenticeships within construction companies across South Yorkshire. Due to the economic downturn, apprenticeships were very hard to find and after many knock-backs Ben found himself looking at an extended period of unemployment.
Responding to an advert for the Access programme in a local shop, Ben submitted an excellent application and performed very well during his interview. Ben saw this as an opportunity to prove his doubters wrong. On programme Ben excelled at Brickwork, but also applied himself very well to all the other trades on offer.
Ben successfully applied for an Apprenticeship through the Access programme, within Doncaster Council and is currently excelling both on site and during his time at College working towards his NVQ 2 in Brickwork.
