Cupcake Sensations
Dawn Roberts has always had a passion for baking fresh home-made cakes so when friends and family couldn’t get enough of her delicious cooking, Dawn knew she was onto a winning business idea. Her son suffers from a serious nut allergy, and fed up of struggling to find decent cakes that were completely free of nuts, she decided to do it herself and started her own business, Cupcake Sensations.
With little experience in running a business, Dawn contacted Success Doncaster for help and was soon referred to an Enterprise Coach who assisted her with creating a business plan. She also qualified for a small enterprise grant which assisted with the costs of setting up the business.
Dawn said: “through the support and guidance from my Enterprise Coach starting a business was made so much easier for me. My friends and family encouraged me and said I was on to a winning formula with my cake recipes but it is the support I have had from Success Doncaster that has really helped my business idea get off the ground”.
“I never realised how much there was available, had I known about the support on offer I would have done this years ago,” she added.
Cupcake Sensations offer delicious home made, quality cupcakes for any occasion, including weddings, birthdays and christenings. The cupcakes can vary from bite size to giant, and colours and designs are bespoke to customer’s needs and demands. Dawn also offers cupcake bouquets in the style of a bouquet of flowers.
Proactive in her approach to business, Dawn attends local events, country fairs and farmers markets to showcase her cupcakes. The cakes are all made with free range eggs and local products where possible. She also offers a gluten free range of cakes and is looking to expand and cater for people with other allergies.
Based in Sprotbrough, Dawn offers her customers a local delivery service, meaning clients can be relieved of the stress associated with the organising of any event or celebration or why not wow someone with a beautiful Cupcake gift!
Dawn is continuing to access support from Success Doncaster and has been working closely with a Business Advisor for further guidance. She is now focusing on how Cupcake Sensations can improve further in the hope she can expand and grow. Looking ahead, she plans on running cupcake workshops to help spread her joy of cake making further afield and has plans to run cupcake hen parties if this is successful

Dawn also supplies her products to La Petite Cour, a Café and gallery based in Tickhill, who have also received support through the Success Doncaster programme.
