Are you interested in buying a franchise?

Have you ever wanted to become your own boss but feel that you don’t have a unique service to sell? Do you ever think that going it alone is tempting but you don’t want to risk being totally isolated?

Don’t worry, there is a way that you can become your own boss but still have the backing of a larger company who has a great product for you to sell. Why don’t you become a franchisee?

Franchising allows you to trade under the franchisor’s trade mark and sell their product made or serviced to their specifications. It is a great way for you to buy your own business and get the whole package with all the elements needed to make it a success.

A good example of franchises on a global scale is McDonalds and Subway. Both of these quick service restaurants operate by franchisee’s paying for the rights to trade under the brand name. They pay a start up fee to the franchisor and also pay an ongoing fee for the continual support they receive. They also order ingredients from the franchisor to produce and sell on to customers so that the quality of the final product is the same throughout every restaurant.

By being a franchisee you will have the continual support of the franchisor for as long as you are running the business. You can become a franchisee in almost any company that offers the service and you can also start off as previously untrained.

There are numerous benefits to becoming a franchisee:

  • No need to think of a new idea – The initial idea is an already successful brand that is picked up by yourself and sold in the location of your choice.

  • Advertisement – Larger companies advertise the brand that you have chosen nationally or even internationally. Most franchises are usually a known brand that is recognisable to people and more likely to be bought.

  • Training – Most franchisors will provide full training in the product or service that you are going to sell, this could even include business training.

  • Funding – As a franchisee you may be eligible for funding to help you towards the initial investment in the franchise. You could also benefit from being able to buy in bulk from the franchisor meaning you are always getting the right product at a cheaper price.

  • Customer value – Customers who are buying from a large brand realise they are getting value for money when they are buying from a bigger organisation.

When you take on a franchise, you pay an initial fee to the franchisor and an ongoing management fee. In return for this you will have the right to trade under the brand’s name and will receive ongoing managerial support.

As a franchisee, you own the outlet involved but it is the franchisor that has control of the marketing of the product or service as well as the quality.
